ABSTRACT
Background
In the parotid gland there are several diseases with different prognosis and treatment, which are presented in a similar way and with increase of volume. Thus, it should be made a clinical study and use auxiliary methods for its correct diagnosis.
Objective
To describe the experience with the study protocol used to evaluate the surgical disease of the parotid gland and report the results with the use of staining to ease its surgery. Likewise, to compare the published results with parotidectomies that does not use staining.
Material and method
We made a review of the clinical files of patients with parotid disease.
Results
We included 42 patients with benign or malignant neoplastic diseases. They were evaluated for surgical treatment. Of these, 37 (88%) had tumours and 5 (12%) inflammatory diseases.
Conclusions
The use of a surgical microscope and the parotid staining in benign tumours and of low degree were useful to reduce the possibility of complications and its recurrence.
