ABSTRACT
Objective: To describe the maternal hemodynamic changes during the normal end-pregnancy and postpartum.
Methods: With a quasi-experimental design we studied 34 pregnant patients in the Hospital Materno Infantil «Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez» in Toluca City. Serial hemodynamic investigations were performed throughout normal pregnancy by thoracic bioimpedance monitoring in 34 healthy women. We performed two repeated measurements, the first in the beginning of labor and the second in the immediate postpartum. The results were expressed in mean and standard error; all data were analyzed using the t-Student.
Results: In the comparison of the variables between the two groups, we found significantly differences in the systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and in the left ventricular work.
Discussion: These results can be the beginning point to study the critically ill patients, as those with preeclampsia.
Conclusions: The thoracic bioimpedance is a good alternative in the hemodynamic vigilance of the pregnant patients, particularly in the observation of ventricular function and arterial tension.
