ABSTRACT
We present the guidelines to be followed for selecting patients that are going to be submitted to a microsurgical procedure, including the basis of the microsurgical procedures in the experimental surgical laboratory and the necessary guidelines for an adequate clinical training of optimal pre, intra and postoperative microvascular clinical procedures, which range from the performance of diagnostic tests, preoperative preparation, intraoperative hemodynamic management, control and postoperative pharmacological support to the final assessment of such procedure. Importance and need of a strict and intensive training in order to be able to perform a clean surgical technique in the management of small structures with less tissue injury. Microsurgical techniques today are no longer considered a sporadic procedure but a common option that offer a shorter hospitalization period, early mobilization of the patient and a decrease in the number of surgical procedures required. Therefore adequate clinical and experimental training is indispensable and compulsory for plastic surgery residents.
