ABSTRACT
Objective: We sought to estimate the recurrence of basocelular carcinoma (BCC) and its correlation to anatomic place, age, sex and reconstructive surgical technique, in a given population.
Design: Retrospective study.
Method: Thirty one medical files were examined which included a total of 35 lesions confirmed as BCC that at the same time were treated with conventional excision in the time period of 1999 to 2004.
Results: The recurrence observed was 5.7% (χ
2 = 27.45 p ‹ .001). According to localization of the recurrence cases, one corresponded to nasal dorsum and the other one to lateral frontal area, both of them reported with incomplete excised borders. The most frequent histological type was the nodular ulcerative (54%) from the total. However there was no statistical difference concerning the distribution of reincidence and histological type.
Conclusions: The percentage presented before (5.7%) is coherent with those described in literature, the cases of recurrence (n = 2) were all related to incomplete resections. The most common places of occurrence were the nasal and supraciliar areas.
