ABSTRACT
Seven cases of mandibular reconstruction carried out after tumoral resection were described; where free fibula flaps were used, between July, 2001 and April, 2002, at the Hospital de Traumatología y Ortopedia No. 21 del IMSS en Monterrey, Nuevo León, México, by the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department. The aesthetic and functional results as well as the complications are described. Six male and 1 female patients were included, between 18 and 47 years old, with mandible primary tumor of different sources. The areas to be reconstructed were: 3 cases of right angle of the mandible, 2 cases of left angle and body and symphysis of the mandible. These patients were monitored between 4 months and a year. The complications were described and functionality, viability and aesthetic contour of the flap were evaluated. To get the best results, a good selection of the patients and the therapeutic options should be done.REFERENCES
