ABSTRACT

Injection of foreign materials is an old and obsolete procedure used since the 19th century to improve body appearance aesthetically. In the 1950s the injection of paraffin oil was very popular in Italy because of the immediate good aesthetic results. It has been through time that short and long term complications of these procedures have been reported. In Mexico, the injection of foreign materials to modify the contour of several body areas is a common practice, yet, the application of adulterated silicones or other substances such as mineral oil, vegetable oil or other type of material by untrained persons can cause serious complications.
