ABSTRACT
Bronchial Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways. In Cuba is the main cause of hospital admittance in children. Sodium chromoglycate has been shown to be one of the choice treatments because of its efficacy and the absence of collateral effects. It was decided to evaluate the effectiveness of the inhaled sodium chromoglycate in the treatment of mild and moderate persistent asthma in pediatric patients. A preliminary study of effectiveness was carried out, prospective and longitudinally during 3 months with 10 male and female asthma patients, ages 6 to 9, at Ángel Arturo Aballí Pediatric Hospital. The 90% of patients corresponded to the age group of 6 to 9 years old, with a predominance of the female sex (70%). The absence of hospital admittance during the study was relevant (p = 0.01). On the other hand, after week 6, an increase in the percentage of PEF was observed in 80% of the patients (p = 0.009), maintaining a stability of the ventilatory function among normal values. The results of this study are related to what is established in the literature about the effectiveness of inhaled sodium chromoglycate in the preventive treatment of mild persistent asthma.
