ABSTRACT
Faecal samples from 795 students of both sexes, attending to nine high schools, were examined for the presence of intestinal parasites using a simple flotation procedure, following the method described by Faust, in order to evaluate the frequency of intestinal parasitic infection and its relationship with academic performance. Samples from 34.7% of students were positive. Of the 276 infected students,
Entamoeba histolytica/ E. dispar and
Giarda intestinallis were the most frequent parasites found, and the most common non-pathogens or negative CPS. Information is summarized in frequency tables and percentages. Results obtained are discussed.
