ABSTRACT
Between XII and XV century in Eastern Europe vampires were a real concern and a hot topic of conversation. A recent explanation proposes that vampires suffered a genetic disease called porphyria, that affects the synthesis of hemoglobin. In this article we try to explain disease characteristics that could be the origin of the myth.
