ABSTRACT
Tetanus is an infectious disease caused by Clostridium tetani, with a serious clinical picture and high mortality. It continues to be a public health problem, affecting all ages. Mortality increases due to low vaccination coverage. In Quintana Roo, the incidence rate is low (0.00 per 100 000 inhabitants), with only one case reported in 2014, so it is currently a disease of low diagnostic suspicion in the region.
A clinical case of years old was reported, originating from a rural community in Quintana Roo and with an incomplete immunization schedule, who was treated for generalized muscle spasms, trismus as well as a recent injury, the diagnosis of tetanus was included.
The importance of vaccination and early diagnosis and treatment to improve the prognosis of the disease is discussed.
