ABSTRACT
Postmenopausal frontal fibrosing alopecia is a scarring alopecia that has been recently described by Kossard in 1994 and rarely reported in the literature. Because the histologic findings are indistinguishable from those seen in lichen planopilaris, frontal fibrosing alopecia is considered a variant of lichen planus pilaris with a particular specific localization and usually onset in the postmenopausal age.
We present three postmenopausal women with alopecia of the frontal hairline were evaluated from 2004 in our office. Clinical examination revealed a band of symmetric recession of the frontoparietal hairline extending to the preauricular areas associated with perifollicular erytema and had partial
or total loss of the eyebrows.
