ABSTRACT
Emphysematous gastritis is a rare and potentially fatal condition; only 59 cases have been reported in the literature and there are no guidelines for the treatment of this entity. Emphysematous gastritis is a severe form of gastritis and has a poor prognosis, which is why timely diagnosis and treatment are essential to lead to the patient's recovery. An approximate mortality of 60 to 80% is reported. It is important to carry out adequate treatment, which allows the establishment of early treatment and improvement of the prognosis. A case is presented of a 54-year-old male patient who comes with clinical data of acute abdomen characterized by abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and melenic evacuations, as well as data of hypovolemic shock, metabolic acidosis and hyperlactatemia. An abdominal tomography with oral contrast was performed, which showed the presence of emphysematous gastritis. Fluid resuscitation and antibiotic therapy were initiated, with the patient presenting a favorable evolution, with correction of the organ failures from his admission. During his stay, he presented a gastrointestinal panel with enteroaggregative, enteropathogenic and enterotoxigenic E. coli.REFERENCES
