ABSTRACT
Introduction: myxoma is a rare neoplasia in the pediatric population, originating from ectomesenchyme, with a locally aggressive behavior. It primarily occurs between the second and third decades of life, with a slight predilection for females. It presents a wide variety of clinical and radiological appearances; however, the most common manifestations are: asymptomatic bone expansion and multilocular radiolucency.
Objectives: the main objective is to report two unusual clinical cases of myxomas in pediatric patients with timely diagnosis. And to describe their clinical characteristics, radiographic evaluation, and unusual treatments.
Case report: the first case involves a seven-year-old male with an asymptomatic supernumerary tooth in the palate. A hypodense image surrounding the tooth's crown was observed, along with palatal cortical expansion and erosion. The second case involves a 16-year-old female who only presented pain as a clinical feature. Imaging revealed a radiolucent area surrounding both teeth. To the histopathological studies, results confirmed an odontogenic myxoma.
Conclusion: myxomas in childhood are extremely rare tumors that have been treated using various methods. There is a clear discussion about performing partial or extensive surgical excision in children due to concerns about disfigurement and interference on the facial growing. As a result, priority is given to early diagnosis through imaging studies that enable a more precise assessment of lesions in this pericoronal sacs, followed by a biopsy to ensure an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment.
