Clinical and epidemiological characteristics of cases with COVID-19 in Baraguá

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in the province of Ciego de Avila was on March 24, 2020. Starting in August, there was a regrowth that placed this province among those with the highest incidence in the country.Objective: to describe the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Baragua municipality.
Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out that covered the period between March 11 and October 31, 2020.The universe consisted of 23 cases, which corresponds to all the cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in the municipality. The ethical research principles were complied with.
Results: the incidence rate of COVID-19 in the municipality was 69,44/100,000 inhabitants, with 91,30% of autochthonous cases. The female sex (86,96%), the age group from 40 to 49 years (39,13%), arterial hypertension as comorbidity (23,74%) and the asymptomatic (65,22%) prevailed. Among the symptomatic patients, fever (21,74%), cough, nasal congestion, anxiety and depression (13,04%, respectively) were more frequent. Regarding occupation, health workers stood out (39,13%).
Conclusions: COVID-19 was more frequent in people around 40 years of age of the female sex and with arterial hypertension as a comorbidity. The largest number of infected were health workers.
