Emphysematous pyelonephritis, report of two cases and literature review

ABSTRACT

Emphysematous pyelonephritis is a urinary tract infection that can be severe and mortal. It is characterized by gas in the kidney’s parenchyma, collector system or perinephritic tissue, and the clinical manifestation can be from an acute pyelonephritis to septic shock. In this revision we present two cases of patients with diabetes mellitus and emphysematous pyelonephritis, one of them die, and the other one survive previous antibiotic and percutaneous drainage treatment. We present a literature review about this disease, its diagnosis and treatment.
