ABSTRACT
Objective: To evaluate the extent of functionality in patients with chronic pain due to osteoarthrosis.
Methods: A prospective, descriptive and cross-sectional study in patients with osteoarthrosis was conducted between June 2004 and May 2005 in a Pain Clinic. The intensity of pain was measured only once by using an 11 point (0-10) visual analog scale and the functionality was measured by using the Katz and Lawton scales.
Results: Forty-eight patients were included. Regarding age, it was observed that as the person ages, his/her functionality decreases. The Lawton scale showed a statistically significant difference for females (p ‹ 0.001).
Conclusions: The results suggest that women with osteoarthrosis have lower functionality than men. No other significant differences were found.
