Transverse myelitis secondary to an arbovirosis infection

ABSTRACT
Transverse myelitis is an inflammatory disease of the spinal cord that can be a result of different inflammatory, infectious or non-infectious processes. From one to eight patients per million inhabitants are diagnosed per year. The case of a 50 years old, black, male patient is presented. This spray worker, of urban origin, has hada history of chronic ethylism for about 35 years. He went to the Emergency Room at "Lucía Íñiguez Landín" Clinical Surgical Hospital, municipality of Holguín, Cuba, due to muscle strength loss in both lower limbs, accompanied by difficulty in urinating and spinal pain. Complementary tests were performed which did not show any specific results; however, due to the patient's history and clinical findings, he was diagnosed with transverse myelitis, secondary to an arbovirus infection. One month after medical discharge, he is completely recovered from neurological symptoms.REFERENCES
