Low power laser in the treatment of juvenile acne in pediatric patients

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the juvenile acne is common complaint in pediatric patients. Its therapy is a challenge for the dermatologist, since pharmacological treatments and physical procedures are combined; within them the laser shows encouraging results.Objective: determining the clinical course of pediatric patients with juvenile acne treated with low power laser.
Methods: a descriptive, pre-experimental, longitudinal and prospective study was carried out. The sample was made up of 47 patients according to non-probabilistic sampling by criteria, and information collected through the interview and physical examination dermatologic, applied low - power laser for 15 sessions and treatment clinical evaluation was performed at the end.
Results: predominated male age group of 16 to 18 years, the use of pretreatment with topical antibiotic, the skin phototype II, the papule as injury, the number of lesions 40 to 99, the clinical form of acne papulopustular and the face as the location of the lesions. In most patients are reduce the number of lesions present before treatment and achieved clinical outcome satisfactory. Minimal adverse events were identified.
Conclusions: the study was demonstrate the beneficial effects of low power laser as a therapeutic modality in acne juvenile, what contribuye to improve the quality of dermatologic care in pediatric patients.
