ABSTRACT
Background: Current international medical guidelines do not establish an adequate
way to deal with the negative long-term impact of COVID-19 on multiple organ systems.
Beyond the existing pharmacological therapies on the market, it is evident that
the management of these patients is currently individualized due to the context and
the macroeconomic/social situation of the place where the infection occurs. Similarly,
the follow-up of these patients is poor and post-acute COVID-19 syndrome is often
undiagnosed.
Clinical case: A 66-year-old female patient who was diagnosed with post-acute
COVID-19 syndrome. Despite having died from complications, she was medically and
pharmacologically adequately treated.
Conclusions: This paradigm made it possible to recognize the key elements to carry
out an accurate diagnosis and a treatment that will allow proper patient management
in individuals who had COVID-19 and recur with multisystem conditions. We firmly
believe that this case has allowed us to identify the appropriate procedure to treat this
syndrome in an adequately resourced US hospital, but also in any other institutions with
limited resources, such as those in Latin America due to the simplicity of the method
used and the effectiveness of the treatment.
