Treatment of breast ptosis with periareolar mastopexy plus endoprosthesis

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Breast ptosis is a cause of concern for many women who seek consultation for aesthetic discomfort. When breast ptosis is associated with scarce breast tissue, mastopexy should be complemented with implants placement.
Objective: To describe the outcomes of periareolar mastopexy plus endoprosthesis in patients with breast ptosis.
Methods: A longitudinal, prospective, descriptive and observational study was carried out with thirty patients who underwent mastopexy with breast implants within the plastic surgery service of Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical Surgical Hospital, from January 2017 to June 2019.
Results: The predominant age group was 19-30 years old (66.7 %). Grade I ptosis (66.7 %) and breast prosthesis volume of 250-300 cm3 (53.3 %) were the most frequent. The postoperative anthropometric measurements of the breasts were within the normal range in correspondence to the measurements of the ideal breast. There was only one complication in one patient (3.33 %), due to suture exposure. The aesthetic outcomes in most of the patients were good (96.6 %) and they were totally satisfied.
Conclusions: The periareolar mastopexy plus endoprosthesis technique proved to be effective for the treatment of grade I and grade II breast ptosis, as well as pseudoptosis.
