ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of patients with diagnosis of nasal
inverted papilloma at the National Medical Center 20 de Noviembre, ISSSTE, Mexico.
Materials and Method: Retrospective, analytical, descriptive and cross-sectional study was done from
2020 to 2023 at the National Medical Center 20 de Noviembre, Institute of Security and Social Services of State
Workers (ISSSTE), Mexico. Patients with histopathologic diagnosis of nasal inverted papilloma were included.
An electronic file search was performed to obtain the following variables: age, sex, clinical stage, recurrence,
exposure to risk factors and type of surgery performed.
Results:A sample of 21 patients was obtained. The mean age was 59 years, finding a higher prevalence in
males (17/21); 18 cases had a history of alcoholism; 13 were found in Krouse stage T3. The surgical approach of
choice was endoscopic surgery.
Conclusions: Nasal inverted papilloma is a benign tumor with an important percentage of malignancy and
recurrence; the causes have not yet been completely identified. The patients in this sample presented epidemiological
characteristics similar to those reported in the international literature.
