ABSTRACT

Introduction: Takayasu's arteritis is a panvasculitis that essentially affects the aorta and main branches, the coronary arteries and the pulmonary artery. It is considered a rare disease, which predominantly affects young women, and pregnancy is a time of special care for follow-up.
Objective: To report the maternal and perinatal outcomes of comprehensive care for the patient carrying Takayasu's arteritis, with disease of the left main coronary artery.
Case report: A 31-year-old pregnant woman diagnosed with hypothyroidism, Takayasu's arteritis, and left main coronary artery disease was evaluated in a consultation prior to pregnancy in which clinical conditions were optimized to reduce the risk of maternal and fetal complications. During pregnancy, she is monitored by the National Cardiopathy and Pregnancy, Rheumatology and Endocrinology Service. The pregnancy occurred with no significant complications. A treatment with beta-blockers and antiplatelet agents was applied, which allowed it to reach term. A cesarean section was performed at 39 weeks with satisfactory outcomes for the maternal-fetal pairing.
Conclusions: Comprehensive care and management by a multidisciplinary team allowed carrying the pregnancy to term and obtaining good maternal and perinatal results.
