ABSTRACT
The current pandemic has generated collapses in the health systems of various countries, while putting health personnel at risk. The involvement of physical therapists in the treatment of COVID-19 has not always been well defined. Regardless of all the interventions performed, more than 50% of discharged patients have decreased respiratory capacity and mobility indices. Advances in information and communication have made smart devices and related applications available to patients and healthcare professionals. Tele rehabilitation benefits both patients and physiotherapists because it allows to assist patients at their own home environment, monitoring of progress, teaching interaction, monitoring of thesis tutorials and discussion of issues among professionals. Evidence from the pandemic supports the model of home- and family-centered physical therapy. COVID-19 could lay the foundation for a new paradigm in the functions and value of physical therapy. The methodology used was based on the search and selection of the most relevant articles on the subject with the systematic review of the most important databases. Tele rehabilitation is offered as an opportunity to monitor and guide post-COVID-19 rehabilitation. The proper use of tele rehabilitation, emphasing on well-founded recommendations and with adequate follow-up through the different routes, could contribute to both the prevention and the convalescent stage of the disease.
