ABSTRACT
The purpose of the study was to describe the management and demonstrate the efficacy of low-level laser therapy in cases of persistent post-surgical paresthesia. A report of three clinical cases of patients with persistent post-surgical paresthesia, with an evolution of between 6 and 24 months, treated with low-power laser is presented. Sensory sensitivity was evaluated through mechanical and cold sensitivity tests, along with the delimitation of the affected area at each appointment. Therapy was carried out using an 808 nm laser at a power of 100mW in continuous mode, with contact application and an application area of 0.0984 cm
2 for a total of 10 sessions. These sessions were distributed at a rate of two per week, with gradual increases in energy starting at 1J per point and reaching 4J per point in the last appointments. In the tenth session, a recovery of 90, 80 and 65% was observed in the three cases, respectively, with the presence of dysesthesia in some areas. Low level laser therapy stood out as a non-invasive and effective method for regenerating injured nerve tissue.
