ABSTRACT
Chondrosarcoma (CS) is the second most common primary malignant bone tumor. It is a cartilaginous matrix-producing neoplasm with a predilection for middle-aged male patients; however, the scapula appears as an atypical site of location. The delay in prompt diagnosis lies in its slow growth as ambiguous clinical symptoms, with bone or joint pain being the most common symptom. We present the case of a 36-year-old male patient with pain in the scapula and left shoulder with two years of progress. During physical examination, he showed null glenohumeral arcs of mobility on the left side with progressive increase in volume in the trapezius and the coracoid area. The diagnostic approach was with a shoulder MRI that showed an encapsulated cystic lesion measuring 105 × 112 × 90.3 mm, compressing the left supraspinatus, deltoid and subscapularis muscles. The surgical management was through a left total intra-articular scapulectomy. The histopathological report was of a grade 2 chondrosarcoma. After surgery, the patient showed improvement with independence in his work and daily life.
