ABSTRACT
The abundance of information in scientific literature and rapid access through electronic database platforms are fundamental tools for medical practice. However, the vast amount of available information makes it challenging to reach concrete conclusions on specific topics of interest. To address this challenge, the methodology of systematic review is employed. A systematic review consists of gathering the best available evidence in the literature to answer a specific research question, following a methodology based on explicit and reproducible criteria by other authors, based on which a screening is conducted to gather the most useful information for the review. To ensure its quality, a systematic review is conducted by a team integrated by experts in research methodology to ensure the integrity of the process. Searching for information for a systematic review involves selecting the most appropriate databases to obtain the most suitable data to answer the research question, from which data extraction will be carried out for subsequent selection based on previously established eligibility criteria. To present the obtained results, there are guidelines that can be followed in order to report the findings while ensuring their integrity and transparency. The results are discussed based on the research question, along with their interpretations and implications in the clinical practice. All aspects of the study, starting from the research question to the results, must be evaluated to ensure their validity and minimize potential biases.
