Level of clinical insertion after surgical periodontal therapy

ABSTRACT
Introduction: loss of alveolar bone support is one of the characteristic signs of periodontitis, where the extent and severity of alveolar bone loss is manifested by a combination of clinical and radiological signs. The objective of periodontal therapeutic action is to recover the clinical insertion of the tissues; Healing takes place in the reinsertion of the fibers and repair of the cortical or trabecular surface, where measurements of the treated sites guarantee the success of the treatment.
Objective: to evaluate the gain of clinical attachment with open field scaling and root planing in patients diagnosed with periodontitis.
Material and methods: a longitudinal experimental investigation was carried out, with a randomized, controlled, double-blind, split-mouth design clinical trial; Two study groups were established: experimental group (GeRACCA) or intervention group with scaling and root planing (SRP) with an open field flap, and control group (GcTC) or non-intervention group that underwent conventional therapy without a flap, in addition to this. It was based on the selection of patients who attended the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Zulia, between 40-60 years of age, male and female, with periodontitis.
Results: when comparing the pre- and postsurgical clinical parameters in both groups, a gain in the clinical insertion level was evident with a mean of 4.6 ± 0 mm in the GeRACCA, being slightly greater and in the GcTC an average of 3.0 ± 3.0 ± -0.7.
Conclusion: the application of SRP surgical therapy in the open field in patients with periodontitis shows the possibility of obtaining a reduction in probing depth and clinical attachment gain.
