Socio-demographic characteristics of accidents at work in pizza-delivery workers

ABSTRACT

One of the main factors for the ocurrence of road accidents on motorcycle is the irresponsable attitude in the driving of it for those whom is the man working tool. Our aim was to determine sociodemographs characteristics of work-related accidents. Methods. A descriptive transversal study. Made in a company that makes and delivers pizza. Identifying the company current workers with history of road accident and marked as industrial accident in the 2001-2003 period. Obtaining the personal record and characteristics of the accident. Results. The industrial accidents where present in a young population, male in 53%, the occurrence dominate in the evening shift in 71% and in weekends in 53%. Refering the worker not stoping on the red light or stop sign for 1-3 times per shift in the 70% of the accident victims. Conclusions. The sociodemographic features are: male young workers, singles, high school diploma, qualified to drive motorcycles and driving experience not less than 3 years. The occurrence of accident are: hit by a motion unity. The driving speed was less than 60 km/h (37 m/hr). Without respecting the red light in the presure to deliver on time before 30 min and with the aim of getting a tip from the client.
