ABSTRACT
Pain, representing the main symptom that afflicts humans, requires a precise diagnosis in order to provide the patient with effective and timely treatment; Through the advances made in the knowledge of its etiology and pathophysiology, it has been classified by the IASP into Nociceptive, Neuropathic and Nociplastic pain. As well as the contribution of Freynhagen et al. Mixed pain is the combination of two or more types of pain simultaneously or concurrently in the same region of the body. Questionnaires and algorithms have been proposed that diagnose each type of pain separately; This article presents a diagnostic algorithm that unifies the different types of pain, having the benefit of making it easier for the doctor or health personnel to identify in a didactic way the type of pain that the patient presents, giving them the possibility of choosing the relevant treatment in their clinical practice, as well as making appropriate decisions in health policies when analyzed through an epidemiological study, since the proposed algorithm can be taken as a screening test for this type of research studies.
