ABSTRACT
Background: the curricular strategy of Herbal and Folk Medicine of the Cuban health system intends to consolidate and systematize the teaching-learning process in an interdisciplinary way with a higher level of organization and better incidence in the formation of the General Practitioner. Objective: to present the experiences in the application of Herbal and Folk Medicine against climacteric manifestations as a result of holistic medical training based on the knowledge acquired through this curricular strategy.
Methods: a prospective longitudinal study was carried out from January 2019 to October 2021, at the "Chiqui Gómez-Lubián" University Polyclinic in Santa Clara. Theoretical methods were used: historical-logical, analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive; and empirical ones: documentary review and doctor-patient interview.
Results: the most frequent symptoms of the women sampled in climacteric age were anxiety, hot flashes, insomnia and headaches. The most common traditional Chinese diagnosis was Liver and Kidney Yin Deficiency, and the greatest homeopathic similarity was with Lachesis and Sepia. All patients were treated with naturopathic nutritional guidance and homeopathy; twelve of them were also incorporated into the practice of traditional exercises, this last group being the one that obtained improvement of symptoms more quickly.
Conclusions: the experiences in the application of Herbal and Folk Medicine against climacteric manifestations were positive: the applied treatment significantly reduced its symptoms; so it's a good one for women who don't want or can't use hormone therapy. MeSH: medicine, chinese traditional; medicine, traditional; climacteric; community medicine; education, medical, graduate; education, medical.
