Distance learning for 5th year of Medicine in times of COVID

ABSTRACT
Background: distance lerning is a modality with growing demand; since the appearance of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become a challenge for medical education in the world and Cuba does not escape to this problem.Objective: to characterize the work carried out by students and professors of the 5th year of the Medicine degree in distance learning in times of COVID-19.
Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on the work carried out in distance learning by students and professors of the 5th year of the Medicine degree from “Miguel Enríquez” Faculty, from March 2019 to March 2021. They used theoretical methods for the collection of information and the theoretical foundation; empirical: documentary analysis of the study program and questionnaire to students and teachers; and mathematical-statistical for the interpretation of the data found.
Results: the students accessed the teaching folders, there was good interaction between them, who recognized that the acquisition of knowledge and skills was high, however, it was not so for the teachers. The extra-class task as a final evaluation was accepted in a high percentage by the students and low by the teachers.
Conclusions: the work of the students and teachers was characterized, where significant differences prevailed in the opinions of one and the other regarding the real effectiveness of distance learning. In general, there was dissatisfaction with this modality of education.
