Evaluation of the diagnostic discussion via WhatsApp in the specialization in Periodontology

ABSTRACT
Background: the diagnostic discussion allows the development of the necessary reasoning to integrate and evaluate the data found in the anamnesis, physical examination and complementary analyzes of the patient, at that abstract and conscious level until reaching a diagnostic judgment that allows establishing or evaluating the therapeutic plan and prognostic judgments. The diagnostic discussion via WhatsApp constitutes a didactic tool for the distance learning modality.Objective: to assess the level of satisfaction of residents and professors of the Periodontology specialty with the diagnostic discussion via WhatsApp as a didactic tool.
Methods: a descriptive research with a qualitative approach was carried out from January to July 2021 at the Villa Clara Faculty of Dentistry. Theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction; and empirical ones: participatory observation and questionnaire to students and teachers.
Results: the clinical records for the diagnostic discussions prepared by each professor had characteristics that allowed the residents to analyze and integrate the acquired contents to arrive and argue the diagnoses, prognoses and design a treatment plan. Regarding the level of satisfaction with the virtual activity, the majority of the responses selected by residents and teachers was always.
Conclusions: with the didactic tool used, a form of distance learning was applied that guaranteed reaching each member of the process in a positive way, which led to the successful completion of the designed activity. Its execution favored the curricular management process for the improvement of the specialty program.
