A 67-year-old woman with a 6-month history of a left lateral tongue mass. The examination showed a well-defined mass in the left lateral region of the tongue without induration. An excisional biopsy was performed, and microinvasive squamous cell carcinoma was diagnosed. Immunohistochemical tests showed positive vimentin and negative for periodic acid-Schiff-diastase, neuron-specific enolase TFE3, and S100, excluding granule cell tumor. Squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue is the most common oral cancer. Wide surgical resection or radiation therapy is the treatment for early-stage disease, with reconstructive surgery for advanced-stage disease.
