Characterization of donations in the Casa del Donante de Sangre del Maule-Chile 2018-2019

ABSTRACT
Introduction: knowing about local blood donors profile allows to orient promotional campaigns tending to optimize donor recruitment and retention strategies of them.
Objective: determine types of donations and demographic characteristics of potential blood donations attended at the Casa del Donante de Sangre del Maule, Chile, years 2018-2019.
Material and methods: descriptive and cross-sectional study with blood donations records obtained at the Casa del Donante de Sangre del Maule, years 2018 and 2019. Demographic variables were studied, such as sex and age, as well as place of donation and their type and frequency. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics.
Results: potential blood donations during the study years, were made mostly by women, with average age of 32 years; 65% carried out in a fixed place, with acceptance rate of 86% and altruistic in 71.9%, and of these, 76% are repeated.
Conclusions: the results show that the Casa del Donante de Sangre del Maule. develops good donor retention strategies and a valuable input was obtained to focus recruitment campaigns.
