ABSTRACT
Introduction: The shampoo with natural actives, in addition to sanitizing the hair and scalp, provides benefits that help nourish and strengthen this annex of the skin. The concentrated hydroalcoholic extract of the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. red flower contains metabolites, such as anthocyanins and polyphenols, which support its inclusion in this type of cosmetic. Objective: Assess a strengthening shampoo with concentrated hydroalcoholic extract of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L red flower.
Methods: The process of making the shampoo was carried out at laboratory scale using the incorporation method. Organoleptic properties, quantification of the anionic active ingredient and determination of pH, viscosity and density were assessed. In addition, stability studies were carried out under stress conditions to the newly prepared shampoo 9 days after being exposed to mechanical, thermal stress and sunlight.
Results: The shampoo presented smell of prunes with a note of cinnamon and purplish red color, a neutral pH of 6.53 (0.07), with a 9.38 % (0.08) quantification of the anionic active ingredient, a density of 1.010 (0.012) g / cm3 and viscosity equal to 8.45 (0.040) Pa.s. These parameters met the standard values for this cosmetic, and no physical changes were observed in the system, when centrifuging and exposing it to the influence of temperature and light.
Conclusions: The strengthening shampoo designed with concentrated hydroalcoholic extract of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L red flower offered satisfactory results that allow opening a new line of research in Cuba and, in the immediate future, to be reproduced on a larger production scale. All these will be possible so long as comprehensive stability studies are completed and the safety and efficacy of the cosmetic are verified.
