ABSTRACT
Objective: To compare the effectiveness of the administration of paracetamol alone, and in combination with B complex vitamins on orthodontic pain, after the placement of elastic separators.
Material and methods: The study included 3 groups of 30 students aged 21-25 years. The first group was given paracetamol, the second group was given paracetamol plus B complex, and the third group was given a placebo. Pain intensity was evaluated using the visual analog scale at different time intervals, at 0 h, 3 h, 10 h, 48 h, day 3, day 4 and day 7; also at bedtime and on waking from 48 h and up to 7 days.
Results: A better analgesic effect was observed in synergy (paracetamol plus complex B) compared to paracetamol, with a statistically significant difference at bedtime.
Conclusion: B complex vitamins + paracetamol have a certain analgesic synergic effect on pain in orthodontic patients, compared to paracetamol alone. This is a preliminary study in the field of orthodontic specialty, to control the pain caused by orthodontic spacers.
