ABSTRACT
Objective: to estimate the degree of oral hygiene and functional dentition of patients with comorbidity.
Methods: cross-sectional, observational and prolective study. Hygiene degree was calculated with the Simplified Oral Hygiene Index. Functional dentition was determined by OMS criteria. Statistical analyzes estimate frequency measures and percentages for categorical variables; to establish differences between the groups, a p‹0.05 in CH12 tests of Pearson and ANOVA was considered. SPSS 26
® was used.
Results: 251 patients, average age 19 to 91 years old. 30.3% are men (n=79) and 69.7% are women (n=182). The OHI-S was 0.88 ± 0.81 minimum values 0.00 and maximum values 5.17; men had a higher average of OHI-S than women (0.99 vs 0.84) with p›0.05. The 47.5% (n=124) was classified with “good hygiene” and only 1.1% (N=3) with “bad hygiene”. Prevalence of functional dentition was 64.4%, similar in both sexes: 67.6% man, 69.8% women; regarding age the group of 61 to 70 presented the lowest prevalence. Diabetic patients have a higher percentage of functional dentition absence in comparison to those who don’t have diabetes or hyper-tensive.
Conclusion: patients presented good oral hygiene and on average a good functional dentition
