Effectiveness of homeopathic calendula as an adjuvant in the treatment of chronic fibro-edematous gingivitis

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Homeopathic medications are prepared with natural substances, calendula is found among the ones with highest use in oral disorders.Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of homeopathic calendula as an adjuvant, in the treatment of chronic fibro-edematous gingivitis.
Methods: A quasi experimental st udy of therapeutic interventio n was carried out, at "Fabricio Ojeda" teaching Dental Clinic with adolescents from "Raquel Pérez" Pre university School in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque province , from October 2018 to Ap ril 2019. The population was forme d by 135 student s, distributed by the probabilistic at random, simple method in three groups of 45 individuals. Group A: conventional treatment with homeopathic calendula 30 CH, Group B: conventional treatment, homeopathic calendula 200 CH and Group C. Control: conventional treatment. The studied variables were: gingival status, healed, mild, moderate and severe. The effectiveness of the treatment to the 7, 15 and 30 days. As a measure, the percentage was used, and as a statistical test, the X square.
Results: Moderate gingivitis at 7 days, with the highest figures in group B for a 22.22 %, prevailed. At 15 days, the mild gingival status appeared in all the groups, mostly in group B, 12.59 %. At 30 days, the 29.63 % of healed patients was achieved.
Conclusions: Homeopathic calendula results effective in the treatment of chronic fibro edematous gingivitis, the high antiinflammator y and antibacterial power was shown with the use of high potencies, it represents a viable alternative in the clinical dental practice.
