ABSTRACT
Tuberculosis continues to be a public health problem throughout the world and as well as inMexico. Tuberculosis of the lung is the main source of transmission. Two major aspects need to be addressed to improve efficacy, to carry out detection in social networks because in 20 to 30 % of new cases this is not done, and to pursue compliance with the full-treatment scheme. The efficacy rate was 65 % in the year 2002 and this was due to noncompliance or abandonment of treatment. Evidence-based clinical guidelines were developed to provide recommendations to primary-care providers with regard to diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. The guidelines take into account risk factors for lack of compliance or abandonment of treatment. Additionally, criteria for referral to other levels of care and for identification of adverse drug reactions were included.
