Communicative tasks for the practice of English oral expression in Medical Students

ABSTRACT
Introduction: English language teaching techniques contribute assertively with the adequate preparation of the health care professionals, because it provides the necessary tools for the professional work and the scientific development.Objective: To design and implement a set of communicative tasks to favor English oral expression for Medical Students.
Method: A descriptive-qualitative research was carried out at the University of Medical Sciences in Holguín during the academic year 2019-2020. A dialectical-materialist method was followed and some others were used: analysis and synthesis, induction-deduction, systemic-structural-functional and modeling; empirical ones: documentary analysis, survey, class observation; and statistical.
Results: The main difficulties were related to limitations in the treatment of oral expression in English. The students’ interest for increasing their communication in this language was confirmed, then a set of communicative tasks was developed to solve these aspects.
Conclusions: The specialists assessed the system as adequate due to its structure and its feasibility of implementation. Once applied, it showed its effectiveness for consolidating students’ cultural and behavioral formation.
