ABSTRACT
Sarcomas represent 0.2% of all new cases of cancer. Giant cell tumors account for 5% of bone neoplasms. Most of these patients initially have progressive pain related to the activity and later, the pain appears even at rest. The advances in the radiological diagnosis, as well as the new techniques in orthopedic surgery and bioengineering, have allowed the development of conservative treatment, leaving as a second choice the classical amputation. The case of a 64 year old patient, with a giant cell tumor in the proximal end of the left humerus, is presented. Surgical intervention with bloc resection of the tumor was performed and the ipsilateral fibula autograft technique was applied. Patient follow-up is maintained in accordance with Cuban standards. After three years, there was an absence of tumor recurrence and metastasis. The technique used is a treatment option to avoid mutilating surgery when tumor prostheses are not available.REFERENCES
