Rehabilitation interventions in the hospitalized patient

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Worldwide, rehabilitation therapy has been incorporated as a necessary practice in hospital services.Objective: To evaluate the rehabilitation interventions in the hospitalized patient.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out, based on the request of rehabilitation interconsultation for hospitalized patients from October, 1 to December 31, 2018, at the General Teaching Hospital of Riobamba, Chimborazo, Ecuador. The sample was made up of patients interconsulted in the different hospitalization services.
Results: An average of 3.1 interconsultations were requested per day with 34 belonging to internal medicine in 19 days of November, out of 55 in total, which demanded rehabilitation services for 85 patients (46.2%) from the sample, 104 male sex (56.5%) and 88 over 60 years (47.8%). Pneumonia (33.8%), acute bronchitis (18.5%) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (8.7%), in that order were the most common diagnoses, with respiratory therapy as the most prescribed technique used for rehabilitation in 72. 9% of the cases.
Conclusions: The largest number of interconsultations was received in November; Internal Medicine showed high demand, mostly male older adults with a prevalence of respiratory diseases, who benefited mainly from respiratory therapy techniques.
