ABSTRACT
Introduction: Plastic Surgery, since its origins, has had within its scope of competence, attention to reconstructive and aesthetic aspects; However, until August 2023, the latter did not have official academic recognition as a fundamental part of said specialty, which allowed the false impression of an apparent "academic void", which gave rise to various Master's courses in "Aesthetic Surgery". Objective: the objective of this review was to identify and analyze the practice of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, from the data of the General Directorate of Arbitration of the National Commission for Medical Arbitration (CONAMED), from 2012 to 2022. Particularly in cases identified with malpractice. Material and methods: the files of the Archive of the General Directorate of Arbitration of CONAMED were reviewed. An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study was carried out. Institutional Medical Opinions and Reports referring to the specialty of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery were included in the sample, selecting those specifically linked to Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in which malpractice was identified. Results: the total sample consisted of 46 files (100%), referring to the specialty of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, which were analyzed in the General Directorate of Arbitration of the National Medical Arbitration Commission with 33 Institutional Medical Opinions and 13 Reports.REFERENCES
