ABSTRACT
Introduction: infection of the burn injury is the main cause of mortality in the burned patient. Objective: to determine and publicize the microbiological profile of microorganisms isolated in patients with severe burns in the Acute Department (ICU) of the National Center for Research and Care of Burns (CENIAQ) of the National Institute of Rehabilitation, LGII. Material and method: observational, descriptive and longitudinal study of retrospective collection of three years. Demographic variables such as age, sex, ABSI scale (Abbreviated Burn Severity Index), positive cultures from different sites, frequency of isolations, mortality rate were obtained. Results: all adult patients (n = 101), over 18 years of age, admitted to the ICU Acute Department were included, A total of 525 microbiological isolates were analyzed, 438 in the group of survivors and 87 in the group of non-survivors. In the group of survivors, the main microbiological isolates were by Pseudomonas aeruginosa in 10%, Acinetobacter baumanni 9.6%, Candida albicans in 7.1% and Enterococcus faecalis in 6.6%. In the group of non-survivors the most frequent were Pseudomonas aeruginosa in 11.5%, Acinetobacter baumannii in 10.3%, and Candida albicans in 5.7%. In both groups the sum of all isolates by Candida species obtained the highest frequency. Conclusions: infections by multidrug-resistant microorganisms are a serious problem in severe burn patients: fungal infections are becoming increasingly important.REFERENCES
