ABSTRACT
Introduction: The embolization of uterine arteries constitutes a therapeutic alternative for the treatment of uterine fibroids. There are different types of embolizing materials, but not all of them have the same effect on the evolution of patients. Objective: To evaluate how the material used in the embolization of uterine arteries influences in the results before and after treatment.
Methods: An observational, descriptive study was conducted from a sample of 19 patients with uterine fibroma treated at the National Center for Minimum Invasive Surgery of Havana, from January to December 2019. The main variables to evaluate the effect of treatment were menstrual bleeding, major fibroma length and uterine volume.
Results: The embolizing materials used decrease vaginal bleeding, fibroma size and uterine volume, at the beginning, at three months and six months of evaluating the treatment, and the behavior was similar for the three materials.
Conclusions: The different embolizing materials used showed a capacity to reduce vaginal bleeding in the post-plant period, as well as the size of fibroma and uterine volume.
