ABSTRACT
Introduction: vaccination programmes aim to reduce or eliminate the impact of immunopreventable diseases. The aim of this paper was to evaluate the evolution of the national immunization schedule (CNV) in Chile, to estimate the evolution of expenditure and to estimate the impact of potential improvements compared to the current schedule.
Material and methods: the evolution of the CNV was analyzed. The current scheme was defined and compared with alternative schemes. The results were expressed as the total, relative budgetary impact of each scenario versus the situation in 2017.
Results: in the period 2007-2017, an increased vaccine expenditure of 35.2 million USD (198%) was estimated. In the face of new biologics, the switch to quadrivalent influenza vaccine would have an impact of 7%, hexavalent vaccine 32% and both 39% compared to the 2017 expenditure estimation.
Conclusions: first estimation of the evolution of vaccine expenditure over a 10-year period with an analysis of the budgetary impact of potential changes in the CNV. The different alternative scenarios analyzed are within the parameters of previous changes and could support the decision-making process associated with vaccination.
