ABSTRACT
Objectives: To evaluate the behavior and results of the cardiac rehabilitation program at the Hospital Clínico Quirúrgico Ginecobtetrico “Dr. Agostinho Neto ”of the province of Guantánamo, from 2010 to 2019.
Methods: Patients with cardiovascular disease, recent or not recent acute myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, dilated cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, revascularized patients, valvular disease, discharged from the hospital or under follow-up in cardiology consultations in health areas are included. It covered the convalescence and maintenance phase, the latter until the first year of evolution, with measures for changes in lifestyle and scheduled physical exercises, after carrying out ergometric tests to determine the training pulse, and during the cardiac rehabilitation program to comparatively evaluate the results.
Results: 1223 patients were included, 81.4% with ischemic heart disease, of these 64.6% with recent myocardial infarction or not. 70% of the male sex. 0.16% of the patients died from cardiac causes. An improvement in average functional capacity is appreciated. There was an increase in the incorporation of patients to rehabilitation.
Conclusions: The implementation of the cardiac rehabilitation program reported an improvement in functional capacity, survival, and a higher quality of life for patients.
