ABSTRACT
Meniere's Disease (EM) is a chronic disease of the inner ear that mainly affects adults in comparison to the child population. Its prevalence depends on the geographic area of the patient with a dominant association in the female gender. It is characterized by spontaneous and recurrent attacks of vertigo, predominantly unilateral sensorineural hearing loss, and tinnitus. The etiology of this pathology is not clear, however it is considered multifactorial. Proper diagnosis is centered on a good clinical history and physical examination supported by the criteria proposed by the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS). The treatment aims to reduce vertigo attacks as well as improve and preserve hearing loss, pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments have been related to the prevention of vertigo attacks and improvement of symptoms and hearing loss associated with EM.
