ABSTRACT
The CUBUS-I is an objective and self-reported psychological assessment instrument comprehended by 32 items that can be answered by using a four-point Likert scale. It aims to explore the need of young adults between 18 and 25 years old, to expose themselves to unconventional, intense, and dangerous sensations or experiences. Concerning its design, a theoretical review, the conduction of 12 individual semi-structured interviews to derive the items, evaluation of these items for four experts, as well as a quantitative analysis of the initial 72 items applied to 286 young adults in a questionnaire format were carried out. With this evidence of content validity, the questionnaire format was reduced to 32 items that were tested with a sample of 229 people to provide it of factor validity through a principal component analysis with Varimax rotation, which generated 4 components, explaining 52,6% of the total variance. In addition, the instrument was provided of convergent validity due to the positive correlation obtained from its association with the variable openness to experience (NEO-EVA, 2014); and also provided of discriminant validity due to the positive correlation obtained from its association with the variable shyness (RCBS-13, 1983). Two retest reliability studies were conducted with an interval of three weeks and two months, obtaining coefficients that ranged from .82 to .92, as well as an internal consistency reliability study, obtaining values between .72 and .93. Finally, scales expressed in linear, normalized, and percentile scores were prepared for the four dimensions of the instrument, namely: Thrill and Adventure Seeking, Experience Seeking, Disinhibition, and Boredom Susceptibility.REFERENCES
