ABSTRACT
Introduction: stroke is the second leading cause of death and one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. In Mexico, it represents 30-day mortality of between 10 and 17%, so the adequate application of the diagnosis and timely management protocols established in the national and international clinical practice guidelines will allow for offering a better clinical outcome.
Material and methods: an observational, descriptive, single-center study of clinical records corresponding to patients who attended the Emergency Department for ischemic stroke was conducted.
Results: 16 medical records with the complete desired information were analyzed, obtaining a sample consisting of seven women (43.8%) and nine men (56.2%), with an average age of 77.5 years and an average time of seeking the care of 266.6 minutes on average from the onset of symptoms.
Conclusion: the time of care for ischemic stroke and the achievement of goals are still far from what is proposed by international clinical practice guidelines, with the prehospital period being the main barrier to optimal management.
